Successful automation of Murtfeldt's semi-finished parts warehouse

Intelligently networked software and automation processes have been involved in Murtfeldt's stock management flow

In 2014, Murtfeldt Kunststoffe, the manufacturer and processor of technical plastics and high-performance engineering materials, began the construction of a new building for Sales and Administration at the same time as rebuilding a major part of its plastic panel warehouse. The result is a fully functioning panel warehouse.

This restructuring aimed to significantly reduce the throughput times of customer orders, create more ergonomic workstations for staff and optimise stock management. "A warehouse like this has a positive impact on all our internal workflows and helps to further improve our productivity," explains Managing Director Detlev Höhner, pleased about the successful investment of several million euros.

Intelligently networked software and automation processes have been involved in Murtfeldt's stock management flow since autumn 2014. Storage areas now cover area 65 metres long by 17 metres wide, permitting a total stack height of 460 metres.

The new system boasts even more improvements over the high-bay warehouse that was previously there: The system provides for the automatic retrieval of different materials for one order, significantly improves the overview of remaining consumption and residual stock and ensures that handling is gentler.

This warehousing system also reinforces Murtfeldt's expertise in food-compliant plastics, guaranteeing 100% batch traceability at both panel and trim level. These are requirements demanded by the entire food industry and even the medical sector, and which Murtfeldt has complied with since 2011 in accordance with EC Regulations 1935/2004 and 10/2011.
